Sunday Brain Dump – 9/7/14

Sunday Brain Dump – 9/7/14

  1. 10th LeperWow!  What a great week at The Heights.
  2. We started a new series today entitled #ChurchFolk. The series is meant to encourage people who have had difficult experiences with church, and to challenge us “church folk” in how we treat people who feel like “outsiders.”
  3. Check out the promo video for the series. My first time breaking out my spoken word skills in a while!
  4. I kicked off the series with a dramatic, 1st Person message where I played the 10th leper who was healed by Jesus. These messages give me a chance to preach creatively and really bring the message to life.
  5. I love to exercise my creativity. It makes ministry so much fun for me.
  6. I dramatically depicted how the leper was ostracized by religious protocol and religious people… and how he was received and healed by Jesus.
  7. The audio of the message will be up very soon. Check here for updates.
  8. I think we’ll work hard to make the video available for this message also. Not sure if the audio will completely do it justice. Stay tuned.
  9. One of our members kindly scolded me that this is the first dramatic message I’ve done in while. LOL.
  10. Another of our members shared with me that this story mirrored her experience almost exactly. From the reactions, I’m guessing that others felt the same. It blesses me that God uses His Word to speak so clearly to us.
  11. Happy New Football Year!
  12. C’mon Redskins!!! Geez.
  13. Not much rest this afternoon after church. I was blessed to attend the pastoral installation of my big sister Dr. Jasmin Sculark to the Jericho City of Praise. What a great (and long) celebration, led by Bishop T.D. Jakes.
  14. Dr. Jazz’ ministry has had such a profound impact on my life. She was the preacher at the youth retreat where I gave my life to Christ at 14 years old.
  15. On Wednesday, we baptized several new believers. This was one of the most amazing baptism celebrations I’ve been a part of. We originally had 6 people to baptize… however, as I shared the gospel and explained the meaning of baptism, we had 4 more spontaneous baptisms! I had to get into the water twice in order to baptize everyone!
  16. This is a HUGE season of outreach in our church. This past Thursday, we were at District Heights Elementary School. The school allows us to come to Back To School Night and give away school supplies. We gave away over 250 book bags of supplies to the students and parents there.
  17. Here’s a link to some great photos from Thursday. Take a look. While you’re at it, don’t forget to like our Heights Facebook page!
  18. We’re going to do it again on Thursday at North Forestville Elementary! So excited to serve our community!
  19. The outreach we have planned for Saturday is bananas! Man, I can’t wait to share that with y’all.
  20. We’re currently working on a new website for the church. It will launch early next week.
  21. Whew! I’m tired. Time to rest. Have a great week.
