Sunday Brain Dump – 8/24/14

  1. Reuben DentistIt was so great to be back home at the Heights after 2 weeks away. I really missed my folks.
  2. Today I started a 2 part series on Forgiveness from Matthew 18. “Failure to forgive is foolish!” So many of us live in the prison of our own unforgiveness.
  3. I went back and forth between this message and another one, literally up the last minute. At the end of the day, I couldn’t avoid the fact that God had impressed on my heart to teach this message.
  4. God often confirms what I should preach by what he has been teaching me recently. There have been recent instances where I have needed to forgive so that I can heal… And where I have needed forgiveness. I know personally the blessing and freedom of forgiveness.
  5. At both services, we had a special time of prayer for people who needed to forgive. Seeing the altar full at both services and hearing testimonies after service confirmed that this was the right message.
  6. Audio from today’s message will be on our website soon! Stay tuned.
  7. Next week, we’ll continue the discussion by breaking down how to take initiative to reconcile a broken relationship from Genesis 33. Feel free to read ahead and meet me at The Heights next week.
  8. As I was preaching during our 11:30am service, Police showed up and started walking through the sanctuary. Needless to say, it was quite the unexpected distraction.
  9. You should have seen me try to stutter through my message while everyone is looking around at the police! That recording will be lost somewhere in the archives! LOL.
  10. Turns out that someone called in that they saw someone with a gun come into our church. Our security secured the building immediately. Praise God it was a false alarm.
  11. Today we announced the results of our school supply drive. Every year we raise a special offering to purchase school supplies for families in our community. Our goal was $3,000. We raised almost $5,000. So proud of our church coming together to smash our goal and bless our community!!!
  12. Today I participated in my first of a couple Fantasy Football drafts. So excited that football is back!
  13. I’m praying tonight for Pastor Mark Driscoll. I can’t imagine the pain he must be feeling as he steps away from his ministry responsibilities for a season. He’s taken a beating publicly recently. Some fair, some unfair.
  14. I’m so excited that tomorrow is the first day of school for Levi and Reuben, who will be going to the same school this year. This is Reuben’s first day of school (pre-K) and Levi’s first day at a new school. This is a huge milestone for our family and I’m such a proud dad.
  15. They had to go to the dentist this week in preparation for school! Man… I’m glad we don’t have to do that again for another six months!
  16. Now that I’m back from vacation, I have a busy week ahead catching up with everything’s I missed at the office.
  17. Hope you all have a great week!
