Sunday Brain Dump – 8/17/14

1. What an amazing weekend! I’m so overwhelmed by God’s blessings and favor.
2. Today I had the incredible privilege of preaching at Eastern Star Church in Indianapolis for one of my all-time favorite preachers, Pastor Jeffrey Johnson. This is one of the most amazing opportunities I’ve ever had to preach.
3. I have admired Pastor Jeffrey Johnson’s preaching since I first heard him at FBCG as a young teenager. People often ask me who my favorite preachers are, and Pastor Johnson is always at the top of the list. So to be invited to his church and preach for him is a dream come true. I would compare it to a basketball player being invited to play ball with Michael Jordan.
4. A few weeks a go I posted on Facebook that I had received an “OMG phone call.” People were wondering what that was… some thought LaVera was pregnant again. LOL!!! I was talking about the call from Pastor Johnson.
5. When I arrived, I saw that Byron Cage was there to lead worship before I preached. Wow!
6. Eastern Star has 3 services at 3 different locations. This was the most fast-paced Sunday ever. Once you finish preaching the first service, you hop in the car and jet to the 2nd service 25 miles away which has already started. Then again to the 3rd service 25 miles away which has already started. I don’t know how Pastor Johnson does this every week!
7. Preaching 3 services is no joke! I’ve done it before, but if you’re not used to it, it can be mentally and physically draining. I’ll have a great nap this afternoon.
8. As much fun as I had today, I still missed being at the Heights. There truly is no place like home.
9. My brother Pastor Darryl Godlock held it down in District Heights today in my absence. I didn’t ask him to, but Pastor G continued our discussion on storms from Mark 4:35-41.
10. I saw a Facebook post from one of our members who was mad that I wasn’t there… Until they heard Pastor G’s message.

12. That’s 3 Sundays in a row that our church has received messages on storms. I didn’t plan this series, so clearly God thought our people needed these messages.
13. I’ve missed 2 Sundays in a row. I’m excited to be back home next Sunday to begin a 2 part series through Psalm 23.
14. During our weekend in Indy, LaVera and I got to go to the Colts vs. Giants game. Got myself a (Baltimore) Colts hat and enjoyed the game… and the junk food. LOL.
15. Special thanks to my mom who took great care of Levi and Reuben while we were away this weekend. Nothing in the world like a “Grammy!”
16. This week we celebrate birthdays of some of my best friends in the world. Today (Sunday) was my mentor Pastor Tyrone Stevenson’s birthday. My two best friends growing up also celebrate their birthdays this week. Tomorrow (Monday) is my best man Steve Lee’s birthday. Saturday is by buddy Tony Dobbins‘ birthday. I am who I am today because of these men. Celebrate them with me.
