Is Your Boo Blocking Your Blessing?

Is Your Boo Blocking Your Blessing?

triangle1#HighRise Recap – Malachi 2:10-16

In Malachi, God is calling his people out for their selfishness. They have prioritized their own comforts and preferences above honoring God. One way that we do this is through our romantic relationships. Don’t underestimate how much your relationships are connected to your worship!

The first thing God calls them out on is marrying outside the faith. If you’re single & ready to mingle… make sure you’re mingling with someone who will walk with you spiritually. This has a direct bearing on your own worship! Judah was the tribe who was supposed to lead the community to worship, but their spouses didn’t know how to worship! They might make you feel good… We get so caught up in temporary feelings that we make permanent decisions. Those permanent decisions affect our worship!

God also calls them out for being impatient and unloving in their marriages. God sees how you treat your spouse, and considers it a major part of your worship of Him. In verse 14, God refers to marriage as a covenant (not a contract). Successful marriage is not 50/50, but 100/100. In their selfish quest for their own comforts, they’ve failed to do the work that it takes to keep a marriage healthy. I know you don’t feel like doing the work… We get so caught up in temporary feelings that we make permanent decisions. Those permanent decisions affect our worship!

  • Did you catch the call this morning? What do you think? Am I making too big of a deal about this? What do you see in Malachi 2 that I might have missed?

Believers and unbelievers should not marry or be in a romantic relationship. 2 Cor. 6:14. They are unequally yoked. However, when it comes to matters of the heart, people may follow their heart and suffer the consequences later. Try telling someone who is already in love with an unbeliever not to marry that person. The believer will dig in with the attitude, “I marry who I want to marry.” In the relationship, the unbeliever may rarely go to church and may resent the time that the believer spends in church. There will be other problems as well. If you are in an unequally yoked relationship, hang in there, if you can. God will bless the entire house if just one Christian is in it. The hope is that the unbeliever will come to accept Christ through your faithfulness and example. Amen?
