Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, as I reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I don’t consider first the legendary Civil Rights Activist. The first image that comes to mind is the young preacher of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. The young preacher who simply wanted to preach the gospel, so he went to school for ministry and achieved the highest honors of academia. The young preacher who believed so deeply that the gospel of Jesus Christ had social and societal ramifications, that he gave his life to it. The young preacher who led his church to change lives outside its walls… not just the ones inside. The young preacher who spoke truth to power through every medium, no matter how uncomfortable. The young preacher who changed the world as we know it, from the pulpit of his small church.

As you reflect, remember that Dr. King was simply a Christ follower whose life made world impact. Be encouraged that your life, fully submitted to Christ, can do the same, as you live your faith out loud. The same Christ who worked through Dr. King is also at work in you! Walk in your divine purpose.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. ~Ephesians 2:10
