Sunday Brain Dump – 7/26/15

  1. I had an amazing weekend hanging out with my bride! How was your weekend?
  2. LaVera and I spent the weekend in New York City. This was our first childless trip away in quite some time. What a blessing!
  3. I also had the opportunity today to preach at Hope Christian Center in Brooklyn for Pastor Tyrone Stevenson. Pastor Stevenson is probably the closest brother I have in ministry, who began mentoring me as a young preacher when I was 16 years old.
  4. Hope Christian Center has 3 Sunday services at 2 locations. They recently opened their second location at a nearby school. I’m amazed at what God is doing through their ministry!
  5. I preached a 1st Person Dramatic Narrative message today from the perspective of one of the 10 lepers that Jesus healed in Luke 11. I’ve done this message before and it is always so fun to bring the Bible to life.
  6. Once again, our youth minister Milton Harris held it down at the Heights, finishing off our Life Lessons from The Lion King message series.
  7. We also celebrated an amazing week at Vacation Bible School. Our young people of all ages led us in music and re-capped what they learned this week.
  8. I’m so grateful for all of our leaders who gave every evening this week to pouring into our children and teens.
  9. This week has been an answer to prayers that I’ve been praying for 5 years. I was moved to tears more than once this week as I saw our young people connect with God in a fresh way.
  10. LaVera and I went to broadway yesterday to see the play, WICKED. One word… WOW! It was such a great play and a unique depiction of what happened in the Wizard of Oz. When you pay so much for a ticket to the theatre, you wonder if it’s worth it. In this case… definitely!
  11. We’re about a month in to the #PowerUpPrayer Call with my friend Bishop Tejado Hanchell. As many of you know, I started up a daily prayer call at the beginning of 2014 called the #HighRise prayer call. At the same time, Bishop Hanchell had his own #PowerPrayer call. After some time, we both got a little winded. We recently decided to merge our calls into the #PowerUpPrayer Call. It has been going quite well.
  12. If you haven’t joined us yet, we’re up every weekday morning at 6am. The phone number is (712) 432-6100. The access code is 124541#.
  13. Someone mentioned last week how different the prayer call is from when we first started the #HighRise prayer call. Yes, there are a few updates… including the fact that we now start on time!! LOL.
  14. We’re preparing for Part 2 of our #SavingOurSons Town Hall Forum on August 8th at 12 noon at The Heights. We’ll have States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, Community Activist Tony Lewis, Jr., comedian Chris Paul and other impactful leaders to interact directly with the young men in our community. I hope you’ll bring a busload of brothers and meet us there.
  15. Busy week ahead, for me. Hope you all have a great one! God Bless!
