  1. Whew!!! Man, what a busy weekend… including a very fun day at The Heights!
  2. Today was the long awaited return of The Takeover.
  3. The Takeover is a sermon series I do periodically where I answer questions submitted anonymously by people who attend our church. No question is too wild, crazy or taboo for me to address.
  4. Today we had a good crop of questions about church, sex (masturbation), marriage, and even abortion.
  5. Because the questions are “no holds barred,” people should be ready for the answers to be “no holds barred!” I don’t take it easy in The Takeover.
  6. If you want to hear me take the gloves off and deal with the real issues people are struggling with, I encourage you to meet me at The Heights next week as we continue the series. The questions only get better after the first day as people get more comfortable to really ask what’s on their mind!
  7. In the mean time, you can click here to listen to this week’s installment of The Takeover.
  8. Our adult dance team ministered today. Because they don’t minister often… and they’re so good, it’s always a treat when they share their gift with us! What a blessing!
  9. Woke up early this morning for some last minute prep and learned of the passing of former DC Mayor Marion Barry.
  10. For most of my life, I didn’t understand the incredible impact Marion Barry had on our city. My earliest memories of him was his terrible fall from grace in 1990. From then, my only memories of him are as the subject of several jokes in the national media.
  11. When I moved back to DC in 2008, I learned about all that the #Mayor4Life did for the city. It became clear why he was forgiven and received back into leadership. The impact that he has had in DC over the past several decades, particularly on behalf of poor people, is undeniable.
  12. My last time speaking with the Mr. Barry was a little over a year ago. I happened to be sitting across from him on the train from New York, just as the Trayvon Martin verdict was announced. He didn’t seem surprised at all.
  13. Praying for the Barry family and for Washington D.C. as we lay to rest one of the most impactful political leaders of our history.
  14. Yesterday I had the honor of being interviewed on Baltimore’s local Fox station. They asked me questions about Saving Our Sons. It was a great honor to be interviewed on a major station like that! What a blessing!
  15. Working on getting the video from the interview… stay tuned.
  16. Was able to have a short getaway to Florida with First Lady and some friends this week. Felt great to get a couple of days of R&R.
  17. Praying for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I know the holidays are tough for many of us.
  18. I’m excited that The Heights will be giving away Thanksgiving Baskets this week to families in need. There are still a few slots left. If you or someone you know is in need, contact us ASAP.
  19. Have a great Thanksgiving week!
