  1. Wow! What an awesome weekend!
  2. I hate missing worship at the Heights, and I ALWAYS freak out to epic levels when I know I’m going to be out… but I’m grateful for our youth minister Milton Harris who held it down for me in my absence.
  3. Milton preached an incredible message challenging our men to step up to their rightful place of leadership. The first thing I saw when I logged into Facebook was a picture of our altar flooded with men at the 9:30 service! What an overwhelming image!
  4. Milton’s message, “Adam Where Are You?” Will be up on our website soon. Click here to listen.
  5. This “Saving Our Sons” series comes just in time as we are working behind the scenes to beef up our men’s discipleship system. I have been gathering with several men on Saturday mornings over the past few months. That group is growing and we’re building what I believe will be a strong foundation of impactful men at our church.
  6. The reason I missed worship at The Heights was because I was in North Carolina at the church that adopted me when I was in college, First Baptist Church of NewHill. I had the honor of coming back to preach for their “Homecoming Service.”
  7. When I was in college, this church took me in, treated me like family, fed me, and let me learn how to preach by practicing on them. I’m so grateful for the deposit that they made into my life over 13 years ago. I am convinced that I am not the preacher or leader I am today without First Baptist Church of NewHill.
  8. I apologized to them today for all the bad sermons I preached while I was there. LOL. I tried to make up for all of them one one day!
  9. I owe some of my leaders at the Heights an apology as well. Some of my key leaders didn’t know that I would not be there and called to check to see if I was okay when I didn’t show up! This was a poor breakdown in communication on my part. Like I said, I freak out to epic levels when I’m going to be out.
  10. I’m glad they cared enough to check on me though! LOL.
  11. This weekend, The Washington Post printed a feature article about myself and The Heights. The article covered our recent out-of-the-box outreach efforts such as our Laundromat Takeover. They interviewed me and spoke highly of our impact in the community.
  12. Click here for the online version of the Washington Post article.
  13. I have no words for how it felt to see us featured on the front page of the Metro section. Amazing.
  14. The writer used some language that many of us would disagree with. Some of his interpretations of the history of our church were inaccurate. Hopefully none of our long-time members were offended. We are working on getting an amendment to the online version of the article.
  15. This week I received notice that I had been selected as one of the presenters at the Mighty Men of Valor Conference in DC in a couple weeks. I have attended this conference for years. I am so honored to have been added to this distinguished list of speakers.
  16. I’ll have the opportunity to do a workshop on “Saving Our Sons,” coaching leaders on engaging young men of color with principles from my book. My other workshop is specifically for young men entitled “The Making of a Mighty Man.”
  17. I’ll also have the chance to make my book available to thousands of men who will be in attendance. Wow!
  18. I encourage you to come to the conference, bring a group, or sponsor a brother to attend. It will surely be a challenging and life changing experience. We’re doing a special discount for members and friends of the Heights. Hit me up for more details.
  19. This week I was invited to a meeting of clergy leaders at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I’m amazed by the many doors that God is allowing me to walk through.
  20. I have a busy and exciting week ahead, which will be capped off by my book release celebration this Saturday at 5pm at the Prince Georges African American Museum and Cultural Center. If you can make it, I would LOVE for you to celebrate this great accomplishment with me!
  21. Have a great week!
