Sunday Brain Dump – 9/28/14

Sunday Brain Dump – 9/28/14

  1. IMG_0084Action packed day at the Heights today.
  2. We had plenty on the agenda today, including several babies to bless during both services.
  3. We originally were supposed to bless 5 babies at the 9:30 service, but because of 4 no-shows it ended up being just one… our baby boy Joseph!
  4. This is one of those cool perks of being a pastor. You get to do your own child’s baby blessing. What an incredible experience!
  5. We also completed our Church Folk series today with a message about Jesus’ response to the woman caught in adultery.
  6. Today’s message pointed out the single-most proprietary asset we have as Christians… Grace. Jesus responded to this woman so differently than the religious people did. They judged her harshly not because they misunderstood her, but because hey misunderstood Jesus.
  7. Jesus has extended grace to each of us. If we truly understand that grace, we’ll extend it to others.
  8. What were some of your takeaways from the message? Comment below and let me know how God challenged you.
  9. With our new website, you can now go to the front page of the site and click one button to listen to today’s message. This today’s message will be uploaded soon. Stay tuned.
  10. Each week of this series, we have been blessed with skits from the FBCG Drama Ministry. Each dramatic presentation matched the subject of the message. The drama element has made this one of the most fun series’ I’ve preached.
  11. Shout out to my friend Joshua Jenkins for masterminding the drama portion of the series.
  12. Today I learned a very important leadership lesson. Ironically, my most valuable leadership lessons involve me apologizing for my impulsivity.
  13. I had to apologize today to someone leading worship who got the sequence mixed up. I responded much more harshly to him than necessary.
  14. I’m not sure how many people saw that… but I’m sure some did. I’m embarrassed at how impetuous I can be when things don’t go as planned.
  15. It’s my fault anyway. Order of service and communication with worship ministry leaders is something I should have delegated long ago.
  16. Yesterday we celebrated my son Levi’s 6th birthday. Levi was born with special challenges that continue today. Parenting him has been a faith walk for LaVera and I that has taught us so much about God’s love, power and faithfulness. What a blessing Levi is to our family.
  17. Thanks to each of you who sent birthday wishes to Levi through social media this weekend.
  18. I’m so excited that my book, Saving Our Sons, releases Tuesday. Thanks to all of you who pre-ordered. I’ve already signed and shipped all the pre-orders.
  19. Both the print version and the Kindle version will be available Tuesday. I’m so excited to get this resource into your hands.
  20. One of my favorite things to do in down time is to attend sporting events. I went to two Nationals games and the Redskins game this past week. The Nationals gave me much more to cheer about than the Redskins.
  21. As the book releases, my schedule is about to get very hectic. This past week was very relaxing. The calm before the storm.
  22. I’m ready! Let’s get it on!!! Have a great week.
